The Tiny Whoop is a popular FPV racing drone and costs $30.00/$80.00 (2018 pricing).  This Eachine Turbine QX70 FPV racing quadcopter is purchased @less than $30.00 (as of Feb-05-2018).

The QX70 uses a standard 2 pin 1S LiPo that costs around $19.00 (as of Feb-05-2018). This video shows the Eachine Turbine QX70 FPV racing quadcopter in action.

This shows the basic configuration to use in Clean-flight before purchase.


Three versions on the QX70

The QX70 Mini FPV Quadcopter flight controller includes a built in receiver. There are three options, 1.FlySky, 2.Frsky, or3. Spektrum compatible. Decide what radio setup you need with your QX70.

Configuring & Binding your FlySky Radio

The transmitter radio is for beginners& it offers all needed features. You can purchase this inexpensive price. This is the one experienced RC flyers suggest you purchase for the QX70 Mini FPV Quadcopter and other like manufacturer models.

Iif you do not already have a R/C controller this is one of the best transmitter to purchase for QX70.  First you setup your radio controller model and aux switches.

This video below instructs setup for FlySky radio.

Once the the aux channels on the radio is configured in mode setup.

Next is to press and hold the bind button shown below writing configuration into radio as-saved.

Next press and hold the bind button on the QX70 Mini FPV Quadcopter flight-controller as you plug in the battery shown in the image above.

Holding Down the Bin Button is Essential.

You might need help holding the bind button while you plug in the battery, or you can used both hands creatively like a real professional :).

Once the QX70 Mini FPV Quadcopter enters bind mode the LED will flash quickly.

Once it has bind and paired and bound for flight a LED will turn off for a second time and then stay on.



Next unplug the battery again then it is designed to blink quickly showing  connected to the R/C controller is active.

Trouble-Shooting the FlySky radio binding to QX70 or QX90

Trouble-Shooting the FlySky radio binding to QX70 or QX90 make sure that “AFHDS mode” is enabled on the radio is the usual answer via trouble shooting.

This is set within the RX receiver setup menu.

Within cleanflight/betaflight you need to make sure you select the receiver mode to be RX_PPM

Needed next is to setup channel mapping to be AETR1234.

This action is required of motioning stick throttle on your radio with pitch channel bar responds via moving, (or anything other motion replacing stick motion for throttle; -i.e. needed).


Setting up AUX switches and flight modes

Lastly, setup your AUX switches on your FlySky transmitter radio.

Video above shows how to setup aux switches through functions setup menu.

Decide the switches setting is needed of your desired task.

NOTE:

A. The commonly used position-#2 switch for arming/disarming SwA,  B. The commonly used 3 channel switch for flight modes (SwC)

Needed to setup the flight modes within cleanflight.

The position switch #2 is used as an arming switch for the FS-16 Radio transmitter (to arm/disarm the QX70/90 quadcopter).  The position switch #3 used to select the 3-flight-modes, [Check].

Within flight modes tab of clean-flight GUI, this is location to set flight modes.  Experience changing flight-modes to become proficient in transmitter.

Do these operations to suit mission needs.  Some transmitters have 2-position switch (AUX1/Channel 5) used for arming/disarming.

The 3-position switch in position of up-right horizon mode that keep quadcopter stable.  The middle position angle mode is for acrobatic performance.

The air mode is for full quadcopter flips of acrobatic performance etc..


Configuring & Binding of Taranis QX70

This guide is specifically documented for “RC Frksy Taranis Radio transmitter and is reviewed as the best radio on the market for the QX90/95).

Operations of the QX70/90 is not limited to the FS-16 Radio transmitter.  Their are more expensive models capable of more functions if you need via $purchase$.

Any Frsky compatible radio that uses the XJT module works the same.  Examples of this include 1.TBS Tango, and 2.XJT module.


Radio that use EU LBT firmware and not US LBT firmware

Please note that the QX70 is only compatible with Frsky international firmware in D8 mode.

If the radio uses EU LBT firmware and not US LBT firmware then you need to flash the international firmware` onto your Taranis or XJT module.

First create a new quadcopter model on your radio.

Second, within that model setup menu make sure you select D8 mode as shown below here.


Scroll down to select the Bind option to initiate the bind sequence as shown above.

Next, you will hear a chirp noise on your taranis transmitter indicating it is looking for a receiver module mounted on the quadcopter.

Trnsmitter and Receiver Bind Mode Procedures.

When an audible chirp sounds off during bind indicates to connect the battery on your QX70 quadcopter while hold down bind button on receiver.

This next procedure follows by removing FPV camera mount-cover to expose the flight receiver controller button.

When this procedure done correctly a Blue LED-Light atop flight controller turns-on to a solid blue.

This indicating the receiver is in bind mode. Since your radio is already in bind mode, it might turn on for a second and then turn off indicating bind-mode already active.

Once bind process is complete the blue LED will turn off if have not already. This indicating the bind process is complete.



Configuring the receiver for clean betaflight

Out of the box this has already been completed.

If firmware is updated then as needed next is to reconfigure the ports to tell the flight controller what type of receiver you are using over again.

To do this go to the ports tab within clean-flight and enable Serial RX on the UART2 port as shown below.

Needed is to select the receiver mode to be `RX_SERIAL and set the receiver provider to be `SBUS`.

Depending on the version of cleanflight/betaflight you are using, this will either be on the configuration tab, or the receiver tab.

Last you will need is to specify the input mapping to be TAER1234.

If this is confusing to you take an energy-drink time out and return to task.



AUX Switches & Flight Modes Setup

You will need to configure the aux channels on your Radio-Transmitter to enable you to arm/disarm the QX70 Mini FPV Quadcopter and also change flight modes.

You will first need to assign two extra channels to switches on your taranis within the mixer screen.

I suggest you set CH5 to be a 2 position switch to arm/disarm. CH6 should be a 3 position switch so you can use 3 flight modes.

When extra channels are set, you need to check everything is working correctly within the Receiver tab of cleanflight/betaflight before proceeding to configure the flight modes.

Configure the flight modes.

Configuring flight modes within the flight modes tab of the cleanflight GUI, this is how setting flight modes created by procedure.

To experiment and change them to suit your needs as you become more familiar with operations then do so.

For the more experienced Quadcopter Drone Pilots

More experienced Quadcopter Drone Pilots use 2-position switch (AUX1/Ch 5) used for arming/disarming.

The 3 position switch (AUX2/CH 6) in the up position is in horizon mode that helps keep your quadcopter stable (great for beginner pilots).

In the middle position is the angle mode for more acrobatic performance.

The air mode is for full acrobatics allowing performance quadcopter flips.


Configuring & Binding for QX70 Spektrum

The Spektrum version of the QX70 Mini FPV Quadcopter,  (and as with some later versions), the binding procedure is different.

The different versions do not have a mechanical bind button, (as its all done via software), and this is the differences.

The QX70 is compatible with either DSMX, DSM2 protocols.

Connecting the QX70 Mini FPV Quadcopter to cleanflight by entering into the CLI mode.

You must use the set spektrum_sat_bind command.

  • For the “DSMX type” set spektrum_sat_bind=9 followed by save.
  • For “DSM2 type” set spektrum_sat_bind=5 followed by save.

When save command enacted the flight controller will reboot into spektrum set bind mode.

After auto-reboot you will disconnect the USB cable from the QX70 Mini FPV Quadcopter in order to power it down.

Afterwards you can reconnect the USB cable and then an orange LED-light will start flashing.

Next,  turn on your R/C transmitter and wait a minute or while licking a soft twinky.

Do this while holding bind button in the down position.

This is done the same as with the Spektrum transmitter radios.

The Spektrum transmitter radios do not have manual bind button known as hard-technology, but only software/Soft technology menu option.

Spektrum transmitter radios have a bind process that is done via software menus as with the DX9 radio same, in case you are confused.

Once the bind process is complete the orange indicator LED-light should be on.

Now simply connect to cleanflight/betaflight GUI and turn off the bind mode.

To do this, you must go back to the CLI tab and type "set spektrum_sat_bind=0" followed by the saveaction.


Configuring the spektrum receiver within cleanflight/betaflight

Out of the box this has already been completed.

Just in case you update firmware you will need to reconfigure the ports to tell the flight controller that you are using the spektrum receiver

To do this go to the ports tab within cleanflight and enable Serial RX on the UART4 port as shown below.

Then you will need to go to the receiver tab to set the receiver mode to RX_SERIAL and set the serial receiver provider to SPEKTRUM1024

The last thing you will need to do is to specify the input mapping to be TAER1234, if this is confusing to you check out our video on throttle mapping


Setting up AUX switches & flight modes

Now, you will configure the aux channels on your radio to enable you to arm/disarm the QX70 Mini FPV Quadcopter and enabling the changing of flight modes.

Depending the version of the Spektrum Transmitter Radio the configuration of the aux switches via the menus is necessary, (You must refer to spektrum specific manual PDF online or manual received with quadcopter packing).

You must setup CH5 in the #2-position switch to arm/disarm. CH6 should be a #3-position switch so you can use 3 flight modes.

Once the extra channels are set, you can check everything is working correctly within the Receiver tab of cleanflight/betaflight before proceeding to configure the flight modes.

Within the flight modes tab of the cleanflight GUI is where you set the flight modes.

Operations drone pilot must experiment and change flight-modes to suit your needed assignments and mission specifics.

I have set the two position switch (AUX1-Ch5) is used for arm/disarm setting.

The #3-position switch (AUX2-CH6) in the up position is a horizon mode that helps keep your quadcopter stable.

The middle position is angle-mode for more acrobatic performances.

The air-mode is for full acrobatics allowing the quadcopter drone to perform flips etc..

The Camera and VTX

The FPV camera and transmitter is very impressive small unit with ability to change between 48 channels on the 5.8Ghz spectrum transmitter radio.

The preferences you can switch between PAL and NTSC.

Depending on where you are, or your countries CCTV/TV preferences you can switch between PAL and NTSC using the button on the front.

Press it for 2 seconds to change between NTSC and PAL.

If you short press it you can flip the video display.

The FPV camera & transmitter PCB board other switches.

On the back PCB board there is another switch that is used to change between the VTX broadcast channels.

There are 48 set variations.

To choose from these variations is with a long press the button for two seconds which changes the frequency group (FR in table).

Quickly press the button to cycle between the various channels (CH in table) in the current frequency group.

There are loads of LED-light’s at the back of the camera that will change depending on what frequency groups in co-ordination with the channel selected.

QX70 Mini FPV Quadcopter Flight Controller

The flight controller on the QX70 Mini FPV Quadcopter is small.

It is based on the SPF3 flight controller with a built in flight receiver in each of these transmitters; Either FRsky, FlySky, Spektrum.

Atop the flight controller includes a bind button

The top of the flight controller includes a bind button.

Used this button for transmitter too receiver pairing with matchable Radio and Controller Radios.

The power connector is a maximum 3.7Volts and a buzzer connector that is not included, but purchased separately.

Ttwo LEDs on the top board.

There are two LEDs on the top board.

The attractive Blue & Orange LED is used to show the receiver link status.

If anyone of these LED is off  this translates that it is not getting any power-signal from your R/C radio.

The green led is used to show the arm status of your quadcopter.

On the bottom of the flight controller is the USB connector that requires special USB to serial cable that is included into 4 motor connectors.

These motor connectors makes it easy to replace motors that get damaged without any resoldering. The bottom also includes the main F3 MCU (the big chip in the middle).


Spinning Motor Battery Connection Fix

If you update the ROM with firmware then all ROM-firmware settings are reset, remember that.

This is a common quadcopter problem after a firmware update(s) and of of these signs is that the motors start spinning up as soon as you connect the battery.

To resolve this issued problem simply go to the configuration tab and view the ESC/Motor features. Select the ESC/Motor protocol to be Brushed show in the image below.

If you do not see this option, (as it is not yet added to cleanflight GUI), all you need to do is go to the CLI and once loaded, simply type “set motor_pwm_rate=1000”  followed by typing “save” at the “#” prompt.
